Labor Day Grill Raffle!

Coming up June 21st Dennis and I will be running in the Bloody Run 10K from Lutzville Road (near UPMC Bedford Memorial) to Everett, PA. They are having a festival afterward, so you can come out and cheer for us and enjoy the Festival activities afterward! We will be making a day of it! The 21st is also Dennis and I's 11th Anniversary!
Also coming up VERY soon.... OUR FOURTH OF JULY RAFFLE!!!

Canoe Race

Today we changed things up a bit and rather than run, we paddled!! We raced in the Bloody Run Canoe Race from Bedford to Everett, PA. A nine mile race, we paddled hard! We gave it everything we had! We came in second to last. Our boat was not the fastest boat by any means, but we had a great time! I will have pictures up when I get home tomorrow! I wanted to get a video, but was afraid that my phone would end up floating down the river!
This puts us at 20 miles, as you can see to the right! We are shooting for $100 per mile in sponsors, and are not quite where we need to be right now, so if you would like to sponsor us please let me know! You can contact me by clicking on my name to the right. You may have to scroll down a bit! We are looking at this being a 15 day trip, in which case we need $50 per minute that we are there!
Also, this is coming Saturday is going to be HUGE!!! We will be at the God Bless America Festival in Everett, PA, running a Chicken Bar-B-Q booth! We will be there until 6pm. PLEASE COME OUT AND ENJOY A NICE CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!

Tarentum 5K

Denny and I ran today, it was an incredibley difficult run. It was all downhill the first half and all uphill on the way back. Denny pretty much kicked my butt! We both shaved about 5 and a half minutes off our last time! So I guess it was a GOOD day!

No race today. We have the following races scheduled:

May 10th- Habitat for Humanity 5K (224 Tarentum/Culmerville Road)
May 17th- 9 mile Canoe Race Bloody Run Canoe Classic (Everett, PA)
June 21st- Bloody Run 10K (Between Bedford and Everett, PA)

If you know of any other 5K, 10K, or even an interesting race involving something other than running, Please let us know! Also, if you would like to join us on a race, or run a race in your area and collect sponsors for us, please contact us for more information. It is really quite fun and very rewarding! At most of the 5Ks they offer 5K walks also, so don't let the running thing stop you!

I am working on sponsoring a 5K around either Fourth of July or Labor Day, if you are interested in helping or participating, please feel free to contact me at any time!

Simeon wanted to make sure he was limber before the run, so he stretched his legs out while holding onto Daddy for stability.
Dennis agreed! He stretched out before the race also!
He is completely off the ground in this picture! He was running so hard and so fast that he didn't see or hear me.

Here is Simeon and Dennis (sr) crossing the finish line! The last straight leg of the race was up a hill, Simeon ran as fast as he could, he really gave it his all! He was THE youngest runner out there!

This was after the race! They each got a medal! They were pretty excited!!

5K at Delmont Luthern Church

Today the boys ran their 5K, they did AWESOME! Denny ran it in 39 minutes and 42 seconds, Simeon and (I) Dennis ran it in 53 minutes and 58 seconds. At one point Denny stopped and walked back to me and Simeon to complain of a cramp, I don't think he understood the idea of pacing himself.Simeon ran the entire first mile without stopping in fact I struggled to keep pace with him,the boys were so excited and could not be contained until the pain set in.This is going to be a journey of faith and perseverance and many lessons to learn. Maybe we will be prepared for Nepal after this summer.Please continue to pray for us along our journey,and please continue to pray that we will be workers worthy of the harvest. Please watch the videos and stay tuned for some pics! The one that looks blank is Denny's big finish, just push the arrow!

Mothers Day Gift Basket

We are making up a Mother's Day gift basket to raffle off. I am looking for things to put into the basket that would be nice for a mother to receive. We did it! We finished our first race! It turned out that there was no kids run, so Lauren asked if she could run with me, the whole 3.6 miles! Dennis and I talked about it and thought we should give her the chance, so we signed her up, pinned her number on and got lined up! Well, about a mile into it she started getting tired, so I just started encouraging her, I told her when we got halfway they would have a drink for her. That was all she needed to hear, her shoe came untied right after that and she would not stop to let me tie it. She wanted to wait till we got to the drink station! She took a very brief break to drink her water and let me tie her shoe and then we were off again! She ran the whole way to the 2 mile marker before asking if she could take a walking break (walk rather than run). She asked me what you call the side of your belly, because hers hurt! So she walked for about a tenth of a mile and then we were off again! With a bright red face, panting, holding onto her side, she looks up at me and says "Mom, do I get to keep the t-shirt?". It was too cute! Anyhow, she finished strong, in 39 minutes and 41 seconds! Way better than I expected her little legs to run! Thank you to everyone who is supporting us in our journey! 3 and a half miles down, 176 and a half to go!!!!!

RACE DAY

It's race day, and I'm really excited! I feel like I'm ready! I worked hard this week, went to the gym every day and gave my all at Tai Kwon Do! I was worried that it would be rainy and cold this morning, but the sun woke me up bright and early and it looks like it's gonna be a BEAUTIFUL day!!! I'll fill you in on how I did after the race, pictures will follow!!!

We went to the track today to practice running. Lauren started running with the goal of one lap (a quarter of a mile), when she was close to the end of her first lap she decided to keep running! She ran four straight laps! The last lap she ran was her fastest! She looked so good running, like she was designed for it! I am really proud of her!She is really excited about our first race on Saturday! She is a great motivator!

We are going to be running in the "A Rabbit Runs Through It" 5K on Saturday April 12, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Latrobe Memorial Stadium. They also have kids runs that Denny, Lauren and Simmie will be involved in. Anyone who wants to come out and cheer us on, Feel Free!! We will be making up T-shirts with our goals and why we're running, hopefully we'll have them done before Saturday! I have to admit that running is one of my LEAST favorite things to do, and I am so out of shape right now that I don't know how I'm going to finish. But!! I will be working hard in the gym EVERY day this week and next getting ready!

Run for the Harvest

First, I'd like to introduce ourselves, we are the Newtons. Dennis, April, Denny, Lauren and Simeon. The reason we are starting this blog is to keep track of the progress of Great Adventure. See, we have these friends who live their lives to serve, they give their lives to save others. They travel the world telling people the good news, and how they can be a part of God's Awesome plan! You can, and should check them out at http://www.unisonharvest.com/ to see what they are all about. As for us, we've gotten to the point where we are no longer satisfied with running on the wheel. It's time to be the hands and the feet. We will be joining Cliff and Christie on one of their upcoming journeys to Nepal. In an effort to raise the necessary funds for this trip we will be running, as a family. 5K's, 10K's, half marathons, and even marathons. (The kids will stick to the smaller stuff.) Our first run will be SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2008 @ 10:30 AM at LATROBE MEMORIAL STADIUM.
